During 60’s original GT40 dominated the La Mans races, wining four times in a row. This legendary model was produced from 1964 to 1969. Four decades later company new model which was simply called Ford GT. However, production of this model ended very soon because except great look, which was almost like replica of original model, other segments of the car weren’t so good. Recently on the International Auto Show in Detroit, company presented new, 2017 Ford GT, which should be a decent successor of original model. However, new model is more like spiritual than real successor and it is designed to compete with other sports cars in its segment.
2017 Ford GT specs
As we know, Ford is one of the leaders in world’s car industry and U.S. best-selling manufacturer. However, for a long time this brand doesn’t have a real sports car that is able to compete with models such as Corvette and other exotic models from brands like Lamborghini and Ferrari. This car was finally presented on the Detroit Auto Show and it was extremely well accepted both by critics and public. The 2017 Ford GT is designed in completely modern manner and it features only some details that remind on legendary original model. New model is full of advanced technologies.
It features new, super-light construction, which is mostly made of materials such as aluminum and carbon fiber. However, the most interesting thing about 2017 Ford GT is the engine. Many of us expected that new model will be powered by some V8 unit, probably the same engine as for the new Mustang GT350, but company decided to install much smaller unit. It is a new 3.5 liter EcoBoost engine, the same that was used for IMSA Daytona Prototype endurance racer. This is a second-generation EcoBoost engine and although it is not very large, it has enormous power. It uses two turbochargers and it is able to make over 600 horsepower. The 2017 GT will use new 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and it should be able to sprint from 0 to 60 in less than 3.2 seconds while top speed will go over 200 mph for sure.
