2016 Ford Explorer Sport
New Ford Explorer for 2016 year has been presented, and as always, Sport trim seems to be most popular according to early information. This SUV is available in base, XLT, Limited, Sport and Platinum trim levels, and Sport is just under Platinum, comparing their equipment and cost. However, this level will be different from others, and while Platinum is maybe overloaded with stuff, 2016 Ford Explorer Sport should be perfect combination. Great performance, excellent comfort and reliability makes this model a real pleasure to have and drive.
2016 Ford Explorer Sport engine
Regular 2016 Explorer is powered from 3.5-l V6 powertrain ready to deliver 290 horsepower and 255 pound-feet of torque, and 2.3-l EcoBoost four-cylinder with 270 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque. But, 2016 Ford Explorer Sport has only the first one, 3.5-l V6 but tuned to burst more power. Upgraded engine for Sport and Platinum trims delivers 365 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque. All versions get 6-speed automated gearbox as standard transmission. However, all-wheel drive system is standard for higher trims, including 2016 Explorer Sport, while lower trims get FWD and AWD as upgrade.
Drive modes are really cool feature, allowing the driver to tune engine, transmission, brakes and power distribution to condition of the road and weather. While base model has 20 mpg rate combined, Sport trim of the 2016 Explorer takes some more fuel, 16/22 mpg for city and highway conditions.
2016 Ford Explorer Sport features
Standard features on lower trim levels will be included as standard for Sport model. However, it gets something that other versions don’t have. LED head and taillights are standard, with 18-inch alloy wheels made for all models. Fog lamps, heavy-duty brake calipers and reverse sensors gives better safety feeling.
Sport trim adds trailer-tow package and dual exhaust tips outside, and leather seats with red accent stitching and some more accents inside. Moonroof and satin-chrome body cladding is giving more attractive look. Audio system is not confirmed yet, but we assume it won’t be 500-watt Sony, announced for Platinum level.
